It's worth finding space in your marathon day bag for a warmup jacket and pants--most marathons will let you check gear to pick up at the end. But also bring along an old t-shirt, old extra gloves, and a trash bag that you can wear at the starting line and get rid of as you warm up.
Especially in big marathons such as the Boston Marathon or New York City marathon, when you are waiting for a while between the time you have to check your bag and the start of the race, those old gloves or shirt can make a big difference between shivering uncomfortably, and being able to feel good and focus on the race. And if it is raining, the trash bag is the ultimate disposable windbreaker!
