Tip of the Week

I ran a half-marathon race today, and it was great! I truly love marathons, but sometimes you just aren't in shape to run them. I am building up my mileage after having to take some time off, and last week was my first run of approximately 13 miles. I happen to be in New Orleans for business, and I realized that the Mardi Gras Marathon and Half Marathon was today. I made a spontaneous decision and was able to sign up last night for the half marathon.

It was just what I needed.! I hadn't run a race for a year, and just being there with a  number on, waving to the crowd, was psychologically wonderful, even though part of me was itching to make the turn with the full marathoners.  And it was perfect running weather, sunny and upper 40s to low 50s by the time I finished, so that helped a lot. I was not near my previous marathon pace, but I wasn't that far off, either. That's the great thing about racing any distance, whether you are a beginning runner or a veteran--there's always someone to pass.

Thank you New Orleans, for giving me back some of my sense of self! I felt like a runner again!
