March 5, 2010, Newsletter Issue #133: The Power of Sleep

Tip of the Week

Personally, I have had a very busy week. I was traveling for work and juggling a freelance project. When I'm busy, I really need to get my running and cross-training workouts in to stay focused and to keep the stress under control, but eventually the inevitable lack of sleep starts to catch up.

Some people (often including me)  think that we don't really need that much sleep. But after a few days of barely six hours of sleep, I start to get that staring, glazed, look.

And it's important to remember that sleep is essential for runners; not just beginning runners, but veterans, too, because that's when your muscles repair themselves from your runs and get stronger. There's a great article on Active.com's Women's Running section about the importance of sleep. Check it out!

I'm going to take an afternoon nap in preparation for an early wake-up call for my 13-mile run tomorrow.

Happy Running!
