September 4, 2009, Newsletter Issue #108: Get On The Ball And Open Your Shoulders

Tip of the Week

Anyone who spends lots of time in front of the computer (and that's most of us in today's workforce) suffers from tight shoulders.

What does that mean for running? Tight shoulders keep you from being able to use your arms as effectively, and tightness anywhere keeps you from being as relaxed and efficient while running as you could be.

But I found some new ideas for shoulder openers today, courtesy of Metro Sports DC, which sends me emails periodically.

The link below lists some quick and easy moves that you can do on your fitness ball to help open your shoulders. If you don't have a fitness ball, I recommend buying one. You can find them online at places including www.fitball.com for a reasonable price, and they come in handy for so many different running exercises.

If you don't have a ball of your own, grab one the next time you go to the gym and try these stretches. I'll let you know what I think of them.

Happy Running!
