A Budding Biathlete? Maybe Not

My running club had their annual low-key, fun, and free club marathon today. Due to some medical issues, I'm not in marathon shape, but I am certainly capable of 13 miles. So, I showed up early and locked my bike at the halfway point (along with my helmet and gloves) and then drove back to the start.

I ran the first half with my running buddy, then hopped on the bike (which was in fact where I had left it) and was able to ride along with him for the second half. It wasn't quite the same for me as running a marathon, but it was the next best thing, and I still got to participate in the event.

But I don't think I'm destined for a future as a biathlete. I fell off my bike when I went for a ride a few weeks ago  when I put on the brakes too hard while pulling up to a stop in front of my apartment building. And I was too clueless to notice until this morning that my handlebars had been knocked slightly askew.

After a brief, "oh no" I realized that the brakes and gears worked fine and I'd just have to turn my arms slightly to keep the bike going straight. It all went well, but I think doing a biathlon (or triathlon) requires too much thought for me! I get nervous enough making sure I have my running shoes and orthotics on race day!

Happy Running!
