My Bruised Ego

I went for a bike ride this afternoon, feeling like a pretty cool biker girl. I don't ride my bike that often, usually just a handful of times in the summer and fall, but I have one pair of official padded bike shorts and a cycling top that my sister-in-law gave me, and I have bike gloves and a helmet with the little visor (I love the little visor!)

I had a nice, relaxing ride and was out for about an hour. Then I came back and pulled up outside my apartment building. But instead of gracefully gliding to a stop, I squeezed the brakes too hard, slammed to a halt, and fell off the bike sideways. Fortunately, I had my gloves to protect my hands, and used my hands to take the main force of the fall. I banged the side of my right quad , so I'll have a bruise there, and I have a small scrape and bruise on my right elbow, but nothing serious. Still, I felt pretty stupid for not paying attention. I guess I'm not the suave cyclist I think I am. It's good to know the brakes work, though.

Today's tip: Always wear your bike gloves when biking! Your hands will thank you.
