Liking The Bike

I always forget how much fun riding a bike is until I'm actually doing it. I try to put in about half an hour on the stationary bike twice a week at the gym, but today, the first not horribly humid day in more than a week, I took my bike out for a short spin in the late afternoon. I was only out for about half an hour or so, but cranking up a steep hill near home reminded me that real biking is good cross training for the quads, among other things.

When I ride the bike at the gym, I keep the setting on low resistance and try to pedal relatively quickly and steadily the whole time. By contrast, when riding the real bike I get plenty of "glide breaks" but I'm working harder when I'm pedaling.

If you haven't ridden your bike in a while, pump up the tires and break it out. As they say riding a bike is just like, well, riding a bike. You won't forget how, and it's a nice way to enjoy a late summer afternoon.
