Enjoy An Upper Back Opener TodayI've been reading about functional fitness exercises recently, and I came across a new move to help open the lower back. As anyone who spends lots of time in front of a keyboard knows, the upper back is a tricky spot to stretch, and it's always good to try some new exercises to open up this area. Relaxing the upper back and shoulders benefits your running, too--you'll waste less energy during a race if your muscles (not just the ones in your legs) are relaxed. If you have a fitness ball on hand, at home or at your gym, try this simple, yet surprisingly effective, stretch: -Kneel with the fitness ball in front of you, so your chest is against the ball. -Roll forward and straighten your legs, keeping th ball under your chest. -Allow the upper body to fold down over the ball, stretching the upper spine. Happy Stretching!
