Find Some Balance As The Work Week BeginsJust a cross-training tip as we start a new week. I have mentioned (I think) how much I love my big red exercise ball. I think it's great for doing ab crunches. But recently I've been reading about the concept of "active sitting," and I want to offer this reminder--even just sitting on your fitness ball while watching TV can help promote core strength and good posture. Of course, try to sit up straight and don't lean on the nearest piece of furniture. I've also read about (but never used--yet) balance cushions, which are designed for use in an office chair or even in the car. This little bit of instability is another way to promote core strength while going about your day. Has anyone out there tried a balance cushion? What do you think of it? I'm somewhat curious to get one for my office chair and see how I like it. You can find balance cushions online from many sources, including fitball.com. Any form of exercise that improves balance and core strength will help your running, too. A strong core provides a firmer foundation for your arms and legs, so you're less likely to get tired at the end of a race or tough workout. Here's to finding more balance in life. Happy Running!
