Home Sweet Gym

Sometimes there's nothing like going out of town to make you appreciate home. While on a business trip in Charlotte, NC, I used the YMCA gym that was adjacent to my hotel one day. Yes, it's a big place that has a whole room of bikes for spinning classes, a basketball court, and a lap pool. But it felt so nice this evening to do my usual cross training workout--my half hour weight circuit and 30 minutes on the stationary bike--in my little neighborhood gym, where I know just how to set each machine, and where to put the exercise ball when I'm done with it.

There's something nice about going "where everybody knows your name," as they say. And even if your home gym is a larger chain, you must admit that if you have used another gym while traveling, it feels good to be home. Sort of like sleeping in your own bed again after a few days in a hotel bed.

Happy cross training, and here's to neighborhood gyms!
