Snow Days Are OK

I grew up in upstate NY, so I do enjoy seeing snow (just don't ask me to drive in it--I learned to drive in the DC area). This morning I woke up to 4 inches of snow that hadn't been plowed. Not a good day to run. I usually take one day off a week anyway, and it's rarely the same day, depending on my schedule. So, today was my day off, and there's something very cozy about enjoying an extra hour of sleep while the snow is falling outside.

But I did get in an easy workout of sorts--my Monday night yoga class was still on, despite the weather, so I enjoyed some cross-training and called it a day.

Remember, marathon training schedules and any other running schedules are made to be altered as your life and the weather intervene. There will always be a better day for the long run or hard workout. Obviously if you take off six days a week you won't get far in training, but there's a happy medium that involves some common sense. After all, how upset would you be if you slipped in the unplowed street and got hurt? Sometimes it's good to remember the old saying, the source of which escapes me right now, "discretion is the better part of valor."

Happy running!
