Cross Training Toys: Resistance TubingEver wonder about those stretchy bands at the gym? Bands and tubes can provide some variety if you're suffering from midwinter cross training burnout and bored with your strength training routine of doing the same moves on the same machines. Resistance tubes can provide an extra strength training challenge because you are working the muscles in all three dimensions, not just sitting on a machine and moving up and down. Tubing comes in different levels of resistance, so start easy until you get the hang of it. If you go to a gym that has different types of resistance bands or resistance tubing available, ask a staff member to show you a move or two. If you get hooked, bands and tubes have the advantage of portability, so you can put them in your suitcase for an instant business travel workout in the comfort of your hotel room. Just keep these points in mind when working out with bands or tubes: -Move slowly. Lift and lower with control, just as you would during any other strength exercise. -Be careful. Make sure that bands placed under your feet are secure, so they don't snap up on you. -Give yourself a hand. If you are buying bands or tubes, look for some with foam handles for a more secure grip. Happy Strength Training!
