Runner Reads: For Holiday Time Or Anytime

As promised, here's the first of several book reviews that may come in handy when you are looking for a gift for yourself or your favorite runner.

For cross training, my favorite book is Stretching, by Bob Anderson. The original book was published in 1975, but the principles still hold true. I got my copy when I was a high school runner, and I still refer to it. What I find interesting as an adult is how many of the stretches are the same as yoga poses. In addition to running stretches, this comprehensive book includes stretches that are helpful for several specific sports, including skiing, cycling, and tennis, as well as specific stretching sequences for different body parts--the back, arms, legs, and feet.
