September 11, 2009, Newsletter Issue #109: Yoga For Hill Run Recovery

Tip of the Week

I have said recently that I had two days of running down (and back up) and especially steep hill during an out-of-town trip, and I was feeling a little stiff (especially after the drive home).

But I went to a yoga class last night, and we did a lot of standing poses (warriors, triangles, half moon) and it really helped.

One of the things I love about yoga as a form of running cross-training exercise is that it forces me to stretch more deeply than I would if I were just at home on my own. And when you're stiff, that extra stretching can make your sore spots feel good later, even if it feels a little painful (in a good exercising kind of way) while you are actually doing the stretching in class.

Happy Running!
