October 23, 2009, Newsletter Issue #115: You Finished The Marathon, Now What?

Tip of the Week

The short answer is, be proud! No matter how your marathon went, whether it was your first or 50th, you did it, which is more than most people can say.

Now, be good to yourself, eat, sleep, stretch if you feel like it. If you are really stiff, I recommend 15 min. of soaking in a bathtub with about 3-4 cups of Epsom salt. I usually do some easy running during the week after a marathon, but that's not for everyone.

If you aren't familiar with Dr. Steven Pribut (or even if you are) check out his page on marathon recovery, and his "reverse taper" plan for marathon recovery and easing back up to training:

No matter what you do, enjoy the feeling of being a marathon finisher!!
