October 2, 2009, Newsletter Issue #112: Use The News To Dry Your Shoes

Tip of the Week

It's been a rainy few days here in DC, so I'm taking this opportunity to share my tried and true way to dry out wet shoes--newspaper. I think I've mentioned this before, but it bears repeating for anyone who has grimaced while putting on soggy shoes the day after a rainy run.

Just take a full sheet of newspaper and crumple it up into a sort of log shape that's about 8 inches long. Wedge the paper log into your running shoe. Do the same with the other shoe.

Hint: Be sure you take out your orthotics before you put the newspaper in; let them air dry separately. After a few hours, or overnight, the newspaper will be soggy, but your shoes will be dry.
